Marc Rosenbaum Will Again Offer His Online Course

The course on designing zero-net-energy homes will begin on March 14, 2016

Posted on Mar 2 2016 by GBA Team

Once again, energy expert and engineer Marc Rosenbaum is preparing to teach a 10-week online course on how to design and build zero-net-energy homes. The course will begin on March 14, 2016.

According to the online course description, “You'll learn key pitfalls to avoid and get numerical guidelines on sizing peak heat loss, glazing amounts, and solar electric systems. You will walk away with a comprehensive understanding of all of the key components of a zero net energy home — envelope, systems, and renewable energy sources — and how they fit together that will empower you to confidently create your own designs. Successful students will complete a full design for a zero net energy home, including an energy model, and earn a certificate of completion.”

Sponsored by the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association (NESEA), the course costs $895.

Marc Rosenbaum is a well-known energy consultant and the director of engineering at South Mountain Company on the island of Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts. He is the author of many Green Building Advisor articles, including Minisplit Heat Pumps and Zero-Net-Energy Homes and Practical Design Advice for Zero-Net-Energy Homes.

More information on the online course is available here: Zero Net Energy Homes.

Anyone Experienced this Course
by Andrew Bond

Wondering if anyone has experience of this course, or Marc and Heatspring in general? Looks good in principal and I've reached out to Tom McCormack for more details.

My main concern is to what level the technical detail goes, as 30+ LEED projects have already given me a good understanding of the general principles.

Marc Rosenbaum and Heatspring are as good as it gets
by Thomas Kacandes

I had a brief argument with Marc at a NESEA conference about oh, 23 years ago. Since then, he's figured out everything in a way that works and tried it out a few times to make sure. There are other important voices in building science and high efficiency construction but you can't do better in getting a well researched and thought through approach than Marc's Heatspring also does a great job delivering courses, so this comment is late, but hopefully you signed up! Soak it all in and don't bother arguing with him.
