Green builders and energy efficiency technicians on the West Coast – and those who may soon have a scheduled stop there – might consider attending the Green Building and Passive House Forum, scheduled for March 22 and 23 at Austria House and the Squamish Lil’Wat Cultural Centre, both in Whistler, British Columbia.

Presented by the Austrian Trade Commission, the forum will feature discussions on sustainable construction, renewable energy, biofuels and power generation, and, using Austria House as an example, Passivhaus construction and materials, including those available from Austrian suppliers.

The event will kick off at 11 a.m. March 22 with introductory remarks by Austrian and Canadian officials and, at 11:30 a.m., will feature the handover of Austria House to the Municipality of Whistler, which will use the 3,000-sq.-ft. building to accommodate local cross-country skiing, snowshoe, and off-road cycling groups.

Although admission to the forum is free, you must register in advance to attend. (An official at the Austrian Trade Commission’s regional office in Vancouver told GBA that 75 people have signed up so far.) To register, you can contact the ATC via phone at 1-778-327-5819, via email at advantageaustriabc@gmail.com , or click here to use the ATC’s online registration form.
