Thermafiber manufactures mineral wool board insulation for commercial applcations using 70% pre-consumer recycled iron ore slag and basalt along with a phenolic resin binderGlue used in manufactured wood products, such as medium-density fiberboard (MDF), particleboard, and engineered lumber. Some binders are made with formaldehyde. See urea-formaldehyde binder and methyl diisocyanate (MDI) binder. , though a 90% recycled content product can also be specified. Thermafiber offers FireSpan curtain wall, RainBarrier rainscreenConstruction detail appropriate for all but the driest climates to prevent moisture entry and to extend the life of siding and sheathing materials; most commonly produced by installing thin strapping to hold the siding away from the sheathing by a quarter-inch to three-quarters of an inch. , and FS general board insulations that are available with different thicknesses, densities, facings, and moisture resistance to provide desired performance characteristics. Both light and dark colors are available for the RainBarrier insulation, and FireSpan can be installed using the company's Impasse hanger system. Thermafiber board insulations provide fire resistance and noise reduction coefficients between 0.95 and 1.25 and R-values ranging from 3.8 to 4.2 per inch.
