Tesla Begins Solar Roof Production

After long delays, the company begins making some versions of its glass roofing tiles in a new Buffalo factory

Tesla has started manufacturing its long-awaited photovoltaic(PV) Generation of electricity directly from sunlight. A photovoltaic cell has no moving parts; electrons are energized by sunlight and result in current flow. (PVPhotovoltaics. Generation of electricity directly from sunlight. South Australia Plugs in World’s Largest Battery

Tesla’s installation is designed to ease grid overloads during periods of high demand

Posted on Dec 8 2017 by Scott Gibson

The world's largest lithium ion battery is up and running in South Australia where officials hope it will help reduce power shortages during blistering summer weather that lies ahead.

The state government announced last week that the football-field-sized battery has been installed at the Hornsdale Power Reserve, where it will store energy generated at an adjacent wind farm. According to a statement from South Australia Premier Jay Weatherill, the battery is "history in the making" and will ensure that the state has backup power to get it through the summer.

Tesla Will Take Your Solar Roof Order Now

Depending on where you live and how long you own your home, the solar roofing tiles could prove to be a good deal

Posted on May 18 2017 by Scott Gibson

Tesla has now answered one of the big remaining questions about its textured glass Solar Roof — just how much will it cost? — and the estimates show some homeowners could benefit financially over time despite substantial upfront costs, according to an analysis published by Consumer Reports.

CEO Elon Musk promised last fall that the innovative roofing tiles, which can be made to look like one of several roof coverings, would cost less than a conventional roof.

Details on Tesla’s Solar Shingles Are Slow to Emerge

We still don’t know how much they will cost, or when they will be available

Posted on Dec 2 2016 by Scott Gibson

It’s been about a month since Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk first announced the development of a solar roof tile unlike anything currently on the market, but it’s still anyone’s guess as to when they will actually be available, exactly how much they will cost, and how much electricity they will be able to produce.

Will a Merged Tesla-SolarCity Put a Solar-Powered Battery in Every Home?

A merger would give the combined company more opportunities to pair Powerwall systems with solar panel installations

By W. ROCKY NEWMAN

One year ago Tesla Motors announced plans to build its Gigafactory to produce huge numbers of batteries, giving life to the old saying, “if you want something done right, do it yourself.”

By making electric car batteries that Tesla used to buy from others, CEO Elon Musk adopted a strategy made famous by Henry Ford – build a vertically integrated company that controls the many stages of production. By integrating “backward” into its supply chain, Musk is betting Tesla can improve the performance and lower the costs of batteries for its vehicles.

Vermont Utility Is the First to Offer Tesla Battery

Green Mountain Power wants to install 500 systems in 2016

Posted on Dec 21 2015 by Scott Gibson

Tesla's Powerwall battery will be installed in 500 Vermont homes next year, making Green Mountain Power the first utility in the country to offer a home battery option, SmartGrid News reports.

The 7 kilowatt-hour battery, the smaller of two Powerwall options introduced by Tesla earlier this year, will provide four to six hours of backup power.
