Has anyone seen a damper for a gas fireplace pipe?

1203sunnyside | Posted in Energy Efficiency and Durability on

In our current house the gas fire places get quit cold during the winter unless we leave the pilots on. We are planning a new house and wish to include gas fire places, but the new ones seem to be pilot less. So I’m looking for a way to eliminate the cold outside air moving freely through the firebox until a fire is lit.
Perhaps a damper that closes off the center “hot” pipe.

New gas fireplaces are sealed combustion or must have gasketed doors, per code. If the FP is installed in an outside wall, you must seal and insulate the wall, ceiling and floor cavities. If the FP is installed on the inside, you must seal and insulate the ceiling cavity. See the Energy Star Guidelines Checklist for air sealing.
