    Phillip,
    Neither a new construction job (building a house, for instance) nor a demolition job should ever be bid by the square foot. To create a bid, you have to break down the required tasks into steps, and then estimate the materials and labor cost for each step.

    You also need to know your overhead costs and needed profit margin, of course.

    A deconstruction job that involves reclaiming the bricks from a building with multi-wythe brick walls is going to cost much more on a square-foot basis than a deconstruction job that involves a simple wood-framed ranch home.
