What is your advice on metal roofing at the beach? Will the salt air affect the metal?

Talk to the manufacturers and check their warranties. Some manufacturers will not provide a warranty if the metal roofing is installed close to the beach.

The supplier our metal roof installer uses provides a 25 year warranty on painted aluminum roofing within 1/2 mile of the ocean, but no warranty for galvalume:
