Is it okay to put an unvented hot roof under a wood shingle roof?

Randy973 | Posted in General Questions on

I live on Cape Cod and I would like to put spray foam on the roof and then Sheetrock . There are wood shingles on the roof now and because I am in a historic district I have to keep them. Thank you for your help.

    Randy,
Are the cedar shingles nailed directly to the plywood deck, or are the shingles nailed to skip sheathing?

If the shingles are nailed to skip sheathing, the next question is: are the skip-sheathing boards the only type of sheathing? Or is there continuous plywood under the skip sheathing?

The shingles are nailed directly to tounge and groove sheathing.
