Caulk versus gaskets for ADA.....costs, durability, best outcome and other considerations
Lots of information on this website, FHB, BSC, etc about airtight drywall approach.
Maybe I'm overlooking it, but I'm not able to find much on the following topics...
1.) What gaskets or caulk work best?
Martin has suggested polyurethane caulk and several brands of gaskets or sill seal in previous posts. Anyone have a particular brand or type of caulk/gasket/seal that they like best? Any tried the "ripped pieces of closed cell sill seal foam" method?
2.) What kind of results people have had using these techniques?
There seems to be two camps, some like the "gooey stuff" while others are gasket fans. Many of the threads I've found on this tend to be several years old. Anyone else care to weight in with more current information?
3.) What results people have had with a particular product (good or not so good)?
Here I'm talking about brands more than anything. Lots of talk about Tremco acoustical sealant. But that stuff is expensive. Anyone use another sealant/caulk and been happy (or unhappy) with the results?
4.) Any other products that might work well for ADA?
For instance, would another type of caulk such as DAP ALEX PLUS acrylic latex caulk plus silicone work well for ADA? Its much more affordable and its qualities (good adhesion, paintable, air/water tight, excellent flexibility when cured) seem like it might be a good candidate?
Thanks for any tips people have.
