Gasket material for Seiho vents?

cnote75 | Posted in General Questions on

I am installing Seiho vents on metal siding. Does anyone know of a good gasket material or similar product to keep water from making it behind the vent? My thought was to cinch the vents tight to the metal and sheathing with screws and include a gasket and bead of silicone around the edge.

    C. Maglio,
Is your metal siding flat or corrugated?

It is not corrugated. It is a board and batten style with a flat panel in between battens. The vents will obviously go in the flat part between the battens.

    C. Maglio,
Since this type of siding can't be lapped, you can't depend on gravity and laps for flashing details. With a siding like that, it's essential to have a ventilated rainscreen gap between the siding and the WRB -- so I hope you have one.

If I were you, I would use an EPDM gasket or silicone caulk. As long as you have a rainscreen gap behind the siding, a few leaks won't matter.
