The average cost per square foot to finish an attic is $20. This excludes the cost of the stairs - if they need to be build. Stair cases are often times very expensive - several thousand or even tens of thousands of dollars..They are complex to build and take a lot of precise carpentry to build correctly. A spiral or straight pre-built stair case is a good option. The average cost to finish an attic is not very helpful because it does not take into account where your home is located or the materials that you will use. You could choose carpet and spend just $2 a square foot or hardwood and spend more than $10 a square foot. A better way to get a quick estimate of the cost to finish an attic is to use an online cost calculator. The one at http://www.remodelormove.com/finish-an-attic/ gave an estimate of $13,000 to hire a contractor to finish my attic in York Pennisylvania

    Daniel,
The cost to finish an attic is the same as the cost of a vacation ($500 at the low end to about $100,000 at the high end).
