Densglass & Stucco

jackofalltrades777 | Posted in Green Building Techniques on

Can one apply EIFS or stucco directly to DenGlass or does one need to treat DensGlass like wood/OSB sheathing?

Can DensGlass be used on a soffit with it directly being applied to the OSB sheathing?

    Peter,
According to the manufacturer of DensGlass Gold, Georgia-Pacific, "Most exterior sidings and wall coverings — including wood, vinyl, composition, metal, stone, brick, stucco, wood shingles, shakes and plywood panels — may be applied directly over Dens-Glass Gold sheathing with excellent results."

Here is a link to a pdf document from Georgia-Pacific with more information:

See the image below for more details.

    Peter,
One more point: while you can probably trust the Georgia-Pacific detail for water-management issues, you certainly can't trust it for energy details. The depicted detail -- steel studs without any continuous insulation, but only fluffy stuff between the studs -- is an energy disaster.
