How to provide makeup air when using a 900 cfm range hood?

baker71 | Posted in Mechanicals on

Are there any solutions to makeup air other than opening windows or getting some expensive mechanical solution. Are there any window solutions that can filter air?

Assuming that you already have 900 cfm and can't choose something less than 200 cfm and a hood with a better capture design...Building Science has an article BSI-070 that details a couple of approaches to providing makeup air for high flow range hoods. It's in the latter half of the article.

    Baker,
Solutions are discussed in my article on the topic. Here is the link: Makeup Air for Range Hoods.

If you want to read the article by Joe Lstiburek that was mentioned by Andrew in Comment #1, here is the link: First Deal with the Manure and Then Don't Suck.
