Ductless heat pumps and conditioned crawl space

FiremanJoyal | Posted in Mechanicals on

Any suggestions for using the two together? I’m intrigued by the efficiency of the DHP’s, but don’t know how I can get some of the conditioned air into the crawl space without auxiliary fans or such. Thank you for your help.

A tiny 5 watt blower on a duty cycler ventilating the crawl with first-floor air is usually enough to avoid air stagnation issues down there.

A ducted mini-split mounted in the crawl space using the crawlspace as the return plenum could work without any separate ventilation equipment. Best in class dedicated mini-duct cassette mini-splits are about as efficient as the best-in-class wall coil types of only a handful of years ago, and can be a more satisfactory solution in a less-than-superinsulated house with a lot of doored off rooms on the first floor.
