Ridge and Soffit Vents

Adequate ventilation of attic spaces helps keep buildings with pitched roofs cooler in the summer and reduces the risks of ice dams in the winter. Some evidence indicates that certain roofing materials experience less thermal stress and last longer on properly ventilated roofs, though this contention is hotly debated. Ridge vents in conjunction with soffit vents create an effective ventilation flow, with air entering at the soffits and exiting at the ridge. The ventilation performance of ridge and soffit vents is superior to either gable-end vents or rooftop ventilators.
