Description

BioBased 501 soybean-oil-based polyurethane spray foam insulation functions much like petroleum-based polyurethane foam. The polyol component of the two-part urethane consists of about 40% soy-derived oil. The open-cell foam is installed at a density of 0.5 lbs/ft3 using CO2 as the blowing agent. It expands to 100 times its original liquid size. The product has an R-valueMeasure of resistance to heat flow; the higher the R-value, the lower the heat loss. The inverse of U-factor. of 3.7/in. (R-13 at 3-1/2") and is applied with customized equipment by certified installers. BioBased 501 was named "Outstanding Green Product of the Year" in 2003 by the National Association of Homebuilders (NAHBNational Association of Home Builders, which awards a Model Green Home Certification.) Green Builders Conference in Baltimore.
