Description

FrameGuard framing lumber, trusses, and sheathingMaterial, usually plywood or oriented strand board (OSB), but sometimes wooden boards, installed on the exterior of wall studs, rafters, or roof trusses; siding or roofing installed on the sheathing—sometimes over strapping to create a rainscreen. components are factory-treated against mold, rot, fungus, and wood-destroying insects with a surface coating of borateBoron-containing chemical that provides fire resistance to materials such as cellulose insulation and provides decay and termite resistance to wood products. Borate is derived from the mineral borax and is benign, compared with most other wood treatments. (disodium octaborate tetrahydrate) and a mix of three low-toxic organic fungicides. The borate component protects against decay and insects, while the organic compounds provide surface protection against mold. Green-dyed FrameGuard lumber is appropriate in climates where houses are normally framed with treated wood. It is not appropriate for ground contact, exterior applications, internal sill plates, or any other application where outdoor-exposure or ground-contact pressure-treated wood should be used.
