What makes this product green?

  • Reduces heating and cooling loads

Vacupor insulation, manufactured by Porextherm and distributed by Peak Building Products, is a silicon dioxide core, in the form of fumed silica, in an aluminum seal. The panels are available in widths ranging from 10"–39" (250–1000 mm), lengths ranging from 24"–47" (600–1200 mm), and thicknesses ranging from 0.4"–1.2" (10–30 mm). Custom thicknesses are available. The panels achieve an unusually high insulation value, although due to thermal bridgingHeat flow that occurs across more conductive components in an otherwise well-insulated material, resulting in disproportionately significant heat loss. For example, steel studs in an insulated wall dramatically reduce the overall energy performance of the wall, because of thermal bridging through the steel. at the edge of the panels, overall R-valueMeasure of resistance to heat flow; the higher the R-value, the lower the heat loss. The inverse of U-factor. varies considerably depending on the size of the panel. The center-of-panel R-value also changes with the interior pressure, and ranges from R-35 at 1 mbar to R-9 at atmospheric pressure, when the panel is punctured or otherwise loses its seal. Various designs are available, including Vacupor RP and Vacupor PS, which are vacupor panels covered in rubber granulate and polystyrene sheets, respectively.
