Computers use less energy in 'sleep' mode.
Computers with an Energy StarLabeling system sponsored by the Environmental Protection Agency and the US Department of Energy for labeling the most energy-efficient products on the market; applies to a wide range of products, from computers and office equipment to refrigerators and air conditioners. rating automatically turn off the monitor and allow the system to go into a "sleep" mode if there's no activity in a set period of time. There is a brief waiting period for the system to come to full operation. Software must be set properly for the energy-saving functions to work. Screen savers often prevent the sleep mode from kicking in and keep the computer and monitor operating at full capacity. Energy Star–rated printers, multi-purpose machines, and scanners also are available.
