Choose building site to minimize impact of on-site wastewater system

Locate septic field so it will not contaminate well or nearby bodies of water.
Lots with no access to municipal waste treatment need their own septic systems. Leach fields should not be installed where there is a high water table, where percolation rates are low, or where soils are very thin and the bedrock is close to the surface. If a suitable site cannot be found for an in-ground drain field, other options include a mound system or (if regulations permit) a recirculating sand filter or constructed wetland.
