Choose environmentally preferable patio materials
Patios are a better green bet than decks
In many respects, patios are far greener than decks. They last longer, the risk of moisture damage to the house is lower, and the materials used in construction are often friendlier from an environmental standpoint. Look for local stone or salvaged stone or brick to build a patio. Also consider porous materials, such as porous grid pavers, or free-draining crushed stone between and under stone or brick.
