Choose a low-flow kitchen faucet

A faucet aerator cuts flow substantially, saving water.
Standard kitchen faucets have a flow rate of 2.5 gallons per minute (gpmGallons per minute. Measure of liquid (usually water) flow.). This can be reduced to 2.0 or 1.5 gpm with a low-flow faucet aerator. But low-flow rates may be frustrating when the object is to fill a pot with water quickly. It may be more practical to use a flip-type aerator that allows the user to cut water flow quickly without affecting water temperature. Another option is a hands-free faucet with foot or knee controls. Although these are fairly expensive upgrades, both options offer convenience and water and energy savings.
