Before concrete pours, choose a location for cleaning the truck
Highly alkaline wash water from concrete trucks can adversely affect soil, vegetation, and surface water.
So, when cleaning up the concrete truck, choose a location that causes the least harm. In addition, you can talk to your concrete supplier about these concerns. Some ready-mix companies have trucks return to the plant, where they are cleaned in a special facility. If available, this is the preferred option. Local regulations may address this issue adequately, however, particularly in urban areas.
At the job site, it may require vigilance to prevent drivers from cleaning out their concrete trucks in the most convenient rather than the safest location.
