Cool the house with ceiling fans

Ceiling fans can be a great way to cut down on air-conditioning costs.

When used properly, ceiling fans save energy and cool us off by supplying moving air, which cools the skin through evaporation. To be effective, however, they must be turned off when occupants leave the room. Often, ceiling fans are left on in unoccupied rooms, wasting energy and even creating a bit of heat from the motor. In humid climates, air still must be dehumidified for optimal comfort.

For further savings, choose an EnergyStar-rated fan.
