Choose the right panel products for use in damp areas

Particleboard and MDF made with urea-formaldehydeChemical found in many building products; most binders used for manufactured wood products are formaldehyde compounds. Some binders are made with formaldehyde. See urea-formaldehyde binder and methyl diisocyanate (MDI) binder. is highly susceptible to moisture damage.
Even high humidity can swell these products and cause delamination or decomposition. Avoid cabinets and furniture made with these materials in moist locations; if they must be used, select more moisture-resistant products, such as particleboard and MDF produced with MDI or phenol-formaldehyde binders.
