Include high-efficiency air filters in HVAC systems

Keep dirty air out of the house with a high-efficiency filter.
Long a source of confusion, efficiency ratings on HVAC(Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning). Collectively, the mechanical systems that heat, ventilate, and cool a building. filters are now much easier to compare using the minimum efficiency reporting value (MERV). A MERV of 10 or more is considered high efficiency. Take care to account for the added resistance due to high-efficiency filters. Filtering incoming air is important in areas with high levels of particulates outdoors, especially those that don't meet National Ambient Air Quality Standards.

While this program is primarily designed for and applicable to new home projects, major gut rehabs can qualify. : Air filters with a MERV of at least 8 are a prerequisite; MERV 10 or better earn 1 point; filters with a MERV of 13 or more earn 2 points (EQ 7).
NGBSNational Green Building Standard Based on the NAHB Model Green Home Building Guidelines and passed through ANSI. This standard can be applied to both new homes, remodeling projects, and additions. /ICC-700: 3 points for filters of MERV 8 or greater (902.2.3).
