Keep plants and shrubs a safe distance from the house
Plants that are too close encourage insects.
Moisture-induced mold or decay is another potential hazard, and homeowners in humid or buggy area should be especially careful. Think ahead. Plants should be at least 18 inches away from the structure, not necessarily when they're put in the ground but when they mature. Irrigation spray heads should be directed away from the building.
