Maximize irrigation systems with automatic controls
Even though manual watering usually is more efficient, most automatic irrigation systems can be made more efficient.
Automatic systems often include control timers, computer-controlled irrigation clocks, moisture sensors, rain shutoff valves, and weather-based systems controlled by a remote service. Regular maintenance and adjustment, such as properly setting time clocks or water delivery based on existing conditions-rather than pre-set conditions, keeps these systems working efficiently. The most efficient irrigation system may be none at all.
The EPA's WaterSenseProgram developed and administered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to promote and label water-efficient plumbing fixtures. program (see link below) certifies irrigation professionals and evaluates irrigation control systems.
