Prewire for an electric car
Plug-in vehicles are in our future.
Toyota and General Motors are among the auto manufacturers developing plug-in vehicles. They could be in showrooms by 2010. The vehicles will be able to carry passengers for 40 or 50 miles on battery power, which can be recharged overnight at home. Prewiring the garage to accommodate an electric or hybrid car of the future doesn't take much extra effort. Commuting by electric vehicle still contributes to traffic congestion, and, while it does reduce pollution, it does not have as much benefit as using public transportation, biking, or walking.
