Use light shelves on south facing windows
Reflected light can brighten the interior.
Light shelves are reflective horizontal surfaces below a high window that reflect light upward and onto an interior ceiling. They create even, diffused light that reaches well into the room. A light shelf mounted on the outside of a window also can serve as a shade for a window below it. Light shelves should be cleaned regularly.
