Use motion detectors or timers with outdoor lighting

Exterior lighting often stays on longer than it’s needed.

Put exterior lights on timers that will switch them off later. Or, use motion-detecting controls to switch them on when people or cars pass by. Turning off outside lamps and spots reduces nighttime light pollution. Reliable motion detectors are widely available; they give you efficient lighting and a sense of safety at the same time.
