Adjustable threshold

charles3 | Posted in General Questions on

I have an adjustable threshold like the one shown here:
How to Raise an Adjustable Entry Door Threshold
For several years the door was unprotected from rain. Now I find that if I try to turn the soft aluminum screws, they strip before they move. They can neither be tightened nor loosened. Is there anything I can do, or do I just have to live with the problem?

    Charles,

Is the threshold wood? If so that complicates things. Typically the way to remove the bolts is to heat the head with a torch then put an impact gun on them. Without heating them you really only get one shot with the Impact gun. If they strip you need a bolt extractor to get them out, and then should be able to0 put in replacements.

Yes, wood as shown in the photo.
