Malcolm, I debated all day whether I should announce this terrible news here. It felt . . . well, I wasn't sure if it was the right thing to do. Andy was a Taunton Family favorite. Everyone is reeling. We're planning something to honor him.

    Kiley,

Let the Taunton Family know that Andy's longtime and widespread fan base is reeling with you.

Thank you for starting this thread Malcolm.

Andy hired me at FHB about 20 years ago and we've worked together in all different ways for many of the years since then. There was never a moment when I didn't admire him, as an editor, a writer, and a builder, and also as a father, husband, and friend. Andy seemed to know what was important in life, without taking himself too seriously, and therefore lived very fully. I think I'll be learning from Andy for a long time yet.

Nicely said, Brian. I'm sure you expressed how so many people feel.

      Brian,

I wasn't fortunate enough to meet Andy, but many of my friends did at early Breaktime fests and came back raving about what a good guy he was. I'm glad Kiley is planning something to honor him. It's well deserved. His contribution to the building community was huge.

I'm deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Andy Engel. As a fellow admirer of his work and contributions to Fine Homebuilding, I can attest to his talent and generosity. Andy's expertise and passion for building will be greatly missed. My thoughts go out to his family, friends, and the entire Fine Homebuilding community during this difficult time. I also suggest checking granite tombstone prices https://vancouvergranite.com/best-material-for-gravestone/ for those who are preparing for the funeral, as these look great. This is something he deserves.
