Bath fan location

JakeG | Posted in Energy Efficiency and Durability on

Im a planning a bath remodel this spring and I would like to do a shower similar to this one pictured below. My question is do I need to put the bath fan in the shower because the opening is built down from the ceiling? The ceiling is going to be painted drywall. Its a one story house so above that will just be attic/insulation.

It would be best if there was an exhaust fan inside of that enclosed shower area, yes. If you also want one above the toilet you can install two. But because of that enclosure you really need one in that shower room.

I would check that the fan is rated for use in wet areas if you're going to install it INSIDE the shower. Lights used in that location need to be rated for use in showers too.

    BTW, very nice looking bathroom!

Ok sweet! Do manufacturers make that rating somewhat easy to find?

Definitely need one fan within the closed shower room. To which you'll probably want a second one close to (or directly behind) your toilet.

I'm in the process of a bathroom remodel installed a second fan directly behind the toilet, but I haven't tested it yet.

If you have the space and willing to spend the time/money, you could consider an HRV specific to the bathroom.
