Best book for consumer education

Muddytyres | Posted in General Questions on

I would like to educate myself about construction methods and materials so that when my contractor and his subs talk to me I have at least an idea what they are talking about. Is there a good resource in layman’s terms to get me started?

Thank you!

The Visual Handbook to Building and Remodeling by Charlie Wing can provide both an overview and a lot of details. One of my favorites.

Nice Nathan! I did not know that Charlie Wing wrote this book. I usually refer folks to this one of his: How Your House Works: A Visual Guide to Understanding and Maintaining Your Home.

I bet both are worth the investment; his stuff is really excellent.

A bit shy on the building science side, but still the best out there.

The best book for consumer education is The End of Advertising and the Decline of Public Life by Marty Neumeier. It was published in 1990, but its ideas are just as valid today as they were then and students can follow this https://au.australianwritings.com/case-study-help/ site to get quality work. In it, Neumeier argues that advertising has become too pervasive and that it has done more harm than good for consumers. His solution is to replace advertising with public relations (PR) campaigns that educate consumers about products and services rather than sell them.
