Compatible Tape for Sealing XPS Foam Board Seams

PLIERS | Posted in General Questions on

Hi hope all is well. I’m looking for a seam tape that is readily available to seal XPS ngx seams. This is for an interior basement wall. I know there is an article on here comparing tapes. However the one that was suggested is hard to find. Anything that is readily available, I have some Tyvek house wrap tape, not sure if I can use that

Do a "test stick" before trusting that tape. Many tapes don't stick to XPS well. I don't usually even bother trying to tape XPS -- I use canned foam in the seams instead.

I taped the seams on the xps sheathing on my house with 3m all weather flashing tape, and it performed exceptionally well. Where it was exposed to weather for months prior to getting it covered it held fast with no signs of loosening. There were a couple areas along the lower exterior wall where I installed steel panels that were exposed for over a year and the tape held tenaciously. I tried a siga brand tape initially, which held well, but the cost for the tape was significantly higher than the 3m, and that was for a narrow width. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend 3m's all weather flashing tape for the xps.
