Best WRB on top of Hunter Xci ply

LaciB | Posted in Energy Efficiency and Durability on

Hi,

In CT and building a new residence. Plan to use Hunter XCI ply as exterior sheathing. What would be the best WRB to use on top of it? Also plan to use cedar shingles for siding and would need suggestions for the rain screen as well. Thanks much.

    Laci,
Your choice of a WRB is less important than the care with which the product is installed. Conscientious installation matters -- the brand name, not so much.

For more information, see "All About Water-Resistive Barriers."

If you want a rainscreen gap between your cedar shingles and your WRB, you'll probably end up using one of the three-dimensional plastic mesh products (for example, Benjamin Obdyke Home Slicker). For more information, see "All About Rainscreens."

      Hi All,
Just a word about Hunter NB panels, do not use them unless you plan to put them on top of a layer of rigid foam. The company has informed me that they like to see a two layer system on a roofing application…a base layer of polyiso under the Nailboard
panels. This way, the panel joints can be staggered.
