Chinese Split Heat Pump Water Heaters

user-5277895 | Posted in Mechanicals on

Sanden is getting a lot of attention due to their Eco-Cute split heat pump water heater using CO2 refrigerant.

In China though there seem to be many manufacturers making split heat pump water heaters using Japanese compressors (albeit with more common refrigerants). On alibaba.com or made-in-china.com do a search for “heat pump water heater” or “evi heat pump” or “twin rotary heat pump” and the options seem to be endless.
e.g No.1 EVI low temperature air to water heat pump water heater /10.4kw/15.5kw/19.5kw/38.5kw/76k/135kw for 2016

The compressor types making the claimed performance possible (operating envelope goes down to -25C/-13F ) are EVI (Enhanced Vapor Injection) scroll compressors and inverter driven twin rotary compressors.

My question is: is anybody bringing them in to N. America? If not then why not? If so, what has the experience been in terms of performance/final cost?

    Osman,
At least two distributors are importing Chinese air-to-water heat pumps to the U.S. The imported appliances are the Chiltrix and the SpacePak Solstice Extreme.

Here is a link to an article with more information on these appliances: Air-to-Water Heat Pumps.
