Clearances for rooftop solar on a flat roof

NICK KEENAN | Posted in General Questions on

Recently Fine Homebuilding had a “Know the Code” article on the requirements for the roof structure for solar panels. It’s here: https://www.finehomebuilding.com/2020/05/05/rules-for-rooftop-solar

It seems everything assumes you have a pitched roof with a ridge. What if you have a flat (or nearly flat) roof? Do you need access to the ridge if you don’t have one?

I’m trying to see what the biggest array I can fit on my roof is.

Thanks.
