Daikin Fit – which model to choose

chrislene | Posted in General Questions on

Hi,

1000 square foot house in MD with 1000 sq ft basement. Replacing furnace with Daikin FIT. One system for whole house – but basement will have separate supply trunk. Being quoted Daiken DH6 and DH7 and I cannot understand the difference. I thought the 7 was more efficient in cold climates until I looked at the stats. Any thoughts would be welcome. Thanks

The DH7 is the cold-climate oriented model. The big difference is in the maximum capacity at low temperature. You'll see that the DH6 starts near the nameplate capacity at 47F but max capacity falls significantly at 17F and further at 5F. By contrast, the DH7 maintains maximum capacity down to 17F at least. The tradeoff with DH7 is slightly lower COP at all temperatures.

To decide which one is best, you would assess your home's heating load at the design temperature and then compare the max output of the two models at that temperature.
