Does a door that leads to the basement require a vent, according to fire code in Omaha, Nebraska?

    Sally,
    I've never heard of a code provision that requires that -- unless you have an atmospherically vented furnace or water heater down there, in a confined space with insufficient combustion air. If someone is recommending a combustion air vent, the usual way is with a duct through the rim joist -- not a hole in the basement door.
