Double wall opening detail

user-5431405 | Posted in General Questions on

Hello,

I am embarking on my first energy efficient home in Maine for my own residence. Walking away from the Code Built norm finds me scratching my head a bit.

Double walls at 14″, 2X6 and inner 2X4. Stem walls and footing with an insulated and thermally broken floating slab system.

Sill pan recommendations for the door breaks where they will contact directly with the concrete stem wall? I will be using an EPDM sill gasket/10 mil poly/tremco sealant sandwich under all the sill plates and I assume under the thresholds of the many doors.

Where the door breaks are, the 4″ of vertical XPS inside the stem wall is exposed. This is covered by the double wall elsewhere. What detail works here to cover this?

This house is designed in house so no architect to turn to on this one and my SE can’t help here either.

Thank for any input!!

Dave: we had a similar issue in our double stud house, but with 2" not 4"of xps. If you email me at stephen at tidewater dot net, I'll send you the detail from our drawings, although we ended up not using it. Instead, the doors went on the inside, more or less coplanar with the inside of the inner wall. That allows them to open in without binding in the opening.
    We're in Whitefield ME.

Thanks Stephen, Look for private emailing. In-swing is crucial to my Main entry door, but all other wall breaks are sliders to allow unhindered floor space, so I prefer to go to the outside edge. I'm cautious of the door pan and drainage details of the "innie" installation.
