Elevated floor assembly

stephenr | Posted in General Questions on

Hello,

We are remodeling a room with an elevated floor that was once a horse barn but was remodeled sometime in the seventies.  Doing a bunch of airssealing and insulation.  Underneath, we plan on adding spray foam to the underside, which is barn flooring and framing.  Above that is plywood and old school linoleum squares.   So, it won’t dry to the outside and it wont dry much to the inside, on account of the linoleum.  It shouldn’t get bulk water.  The client may want to add another layer of linoleum on top.  Any problems or concerns with this assembly?

Thanks,

Stephen

    Stephen,

No moisture concerns if the spray foam is closed cell, but the floor will still feel cold due to the thermal bridging of the joists. My typical stack up for raised floors is to fill the cavities with batts, and run a layer of foam on the underside of the joists, covered by plywood for protection.
