Experience with Zandur cork flooring tiles?

user-1115566081 | Posted in General Questions on

I came across what seems like potentially interesting pure, thick cork and cork/rubber tiles by a company called Zandur.

Has anyone had experience with their products?

They don’t sell directly to residential customers, but they have reps around the country.
Here is a cool interview with the company founder.

The company is based in Front Royal, Virginia, so it would be easy to contact them directly or even speak to the owner, Rob McKee!
I’ve ordered several samples of each type with various colors and thicknesses. I haven’t found any source of pricing.

Can't tell if you are a bot shilling for this company, but I'll bite.

I used a very similar product, the Expanko XCR5 Cork/Rubber flooring, which was also a commercial product. Unfortunately, after decades in business, Expanko closed after the pandemic. However, I'm very pleased with the product. I used it in a mud room, washer/dryer area and bathrooms. It is resilient (so somewhat soft, but not really to the touch; it is durable enough to not deform), and thus is not cold to the touch on bare feet, is slip resistant wet and dry, and easy to clean.

The XCR5 is made of rubber, with pieces of cork flecks, so looks very much like the cork/rubber product you linked. The cork flecks are embedded in and proud of the rubber surface, so the large otherwise smooth surface is interuppted by miniscule pieces of cork sticking out, which helps with slip resistance especially when wet.

When I purchased, Expanko sold remnants/end of rolls/piecess that could not make up an entire roll. So I bought a roll remnant in one color, and an entire roll in another color, which was exactly the correct amount. I also came in large tiles, but I wanted to minimize seams. I could not find any residential sub who would install it per the install instructions (required a luan layer over the subfloor and under the XCR5, and specific type of glue) so I just did it myself. The only difficult part is the stuff is very heavy.
