I have 2" (50mm) cork on part of the exterior of my house. I use 3" screws for everything. Sometimes it's necessary to screw a piece of trimboard to the cork and anchor to that.

Would you recommend cork as a siding material in general? It seems like it has a lot of the benefits of thermally modified wood while being easier to work with.

I haven't had it long enough to form an opinion of its long-term durability. It is good-looking, gets a lot of compliments, and since exterior continuous is required it serves double-duty. On the other hand, installation was a pain. It's very brittle, it's very easy to ding a corner or crack a piece if you drop it. The tiles are unforgiving of a surface that isn't perfectly flat, if there are imperfections in the substrate you'll get gaps between pieces.
