Foaming behind electric box

kickstarter | Posted in General Questions on

Any tips on ways to foam behind an electric box that has already been drywalled around? I don’t think there is any way to remove the box without damaging the drywall.

My thought was to punch one of the knockouts down, insert a small plastic tube, then spray canned foam through it to flood the area behind the box.

Use the Dow "pro" foam gun and the disposable plastic tips, which will let you inject foam through small holes down to maybe 3/16" diameter or so. If your electric box has any open screw hole in the back, inject the foam through that. If you can't find a hole, drill a small one for the tip of the gun. This will let you do better than nothing, but you probably won't get a particularly good fill of foam behind the box -- expect some voids.
