Detached Deck Slopes Toward House

derekr | Posted in General Questions on

Freestanding Deck was level, now has settled after a few weeks and has a slight 1/8 inch slope towards house. Is this a big deal or not since the deck isn’t attached to my house and has a gap between it and the house, my deck boards also are going to have 1/4 inch gap between them, is that going to allow enough drainage so water doesn’t flow to the house?

Not best practice, but with the spacing of the deck boards and the gap at the house you should be ok. This becomes a major problem with vinyl or other continuous decking.

Yea was just thinking the water is going to drop between the boards no matter which way it’s sloping so not sure what the difference would be

If I make a form out of 2x4’s for a cement pad for the stair landing would that be thick enough for the cement landing?
