Green product for attaching EPDM roofing membrane?

lucyna99 | Posted in Green Building Techniques on

We have a flat roof on the porch and had specified EPDM membrane for it. What products could be used to attach it? One product that is used for this, BA-100 Neoprene Bonding Adhesive by Continental rubber Company (made of Toluene, Hexane and Acetone) is labeled hazardous, extremely flammable and dangerous to breath in. What products would this community recommend?

Firestone apparently makes several LVOC adhesives for EPDM roofing systems. Have you talked to any installers to see what they recommend (and will warranty)?

If your slope is low enough, the EPDM does not need to be "fully adhered," it can be a ballasted system instead, with tumbled stone holding the membrane in place.
