Help with thermally broken steel doors

eagleeyeshawk | Posted in General Questions on

Hello all,

climate zone 4a, Nashville.

we are planning for a steel 60 x 96 inch double steel front entry door, each with 8 lights. There is a thermally broken and non-thermally broken option. Both contain close cell spray foam, however the thermally broken door contains a true thermal break.

we have tried to make good choices where we can. Decent Marvin windows with ufactor of 0.24. We will do our best to air seal as best as possible. The walls are  currently R20.

TLDR: $2000 upcharge (7500 to 9500) for the thermally  broken option. I would like your thoughts about if this option worth it?

As always thanks for your thoughts.

Does either option have a u-factor given? It's hard to make a value decision without that.

Are you set on this particular door? I'd look at fiberglass doors.
