    Is the fiberboard in good condition? Are you in a high-wind or seismically active area?

    At minimum, I would take the opportunity to make the sheathing layer airtight by adding a high-quality WRB (aka housewrap) that is carefully detailed for air control. It's been 30 years since I last installed black fiberboard and I'm not sure what would stick to it, so simply taping the seams may or may not work.
